Jo Haazen was born in Antwerp in 1944. He studied at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Antwerp from which he has several first prizes, and at the Royal Carillon School Jef Denyn, from which he obtained a diploma in 1965. From 1968 to 1981 he was the City Carillonneur of Antwerp. In 1981 he was appointed City Carillonneur of Mechelen and Director of the Mechelen Carillon School.
